Character History:
Telemachus Rhade is the direct descendant and genetic reincarnation of Gaheris Rhade, the first officer of the Andromeda Ascendant and traitor from 300 years ago. During a big battle with the Nietzscheans, Gaheris (and many other Nietzscheans in the Commonwealth fleet) switch sides. Gaheris was instrumental in the Nietzschean uprising and in betraying the Commonwealth. Although he betrayed the Commonwealth, both sides still view him as a hero. The Commonwealth honor him as the first great officer to fall in the battle against the Nietzscheans, and the Nietzscheans honor him as a spy and informant who played a key role in the fall of the Commonwealth.
We first meet Telemachus Rhade on the planet Terazed, the only planet left in the universe to still follow the now fallen Systems Commonwealth. Terazed is a planet where humans and Nietzscheans coexist, unlike other planets where they view humans as inferior take humans as slaves(while Rhade does view humans as inferior genetically, he still respects them as equals). Rhade is an Admiral of the Home Guard Fleet and the leader of the Isolationist Movement--a movement which believes that if Terazed joins the New Systems Commonwealth, they will become prey. If they stay isolated, they are safe and will thrive.
After a battle ensues between Telemachus Rhade and Dylan Hunt, mirroring the old battle with Gaheris 300 years ago, everything gets worked out and Terazed joins the New Systems Commonwealth. Rhade is given the rank of Lt. Commander in the New Systems Commonwealth, although he is still Admiral in the Home Guard. When we see Rhade again a few seasons later, he is transporting a prisoner, Tyr Anasazi, former crew member of the Andromeda Ascendant. When Tyr escapes, Rhade is arrested by the now corrupt New Systems Commonwealth, wanting a scapegoat.
Dylan busts Rhade out of prison. While in pursuit of Tyr, Rhade joins the crew of the Andromeda permanently and former crewmember Tyr, who by now is becoming a real pain in the ass, is killed. Telemachus, in joining the crew, expresses his wish to learn from Dylan and honor the Commonwealth. Of course, since he is now an escaped criminal, he really has nowhere else to go but join the Andromeda crew of...renegades and criminals. Together they try to help the Commonwealth, defeat the Magog world ship and the abyss and save the universe. All that good stuff. Unfortunately, for a while, they kind of failed miserably. While the crew of the Andromeda is running around trying to save the universe and sucking at it, that is when Rhade is taken. :-)
Character Personality
As a Nietzschean, he shares common personality and cultural points with all his people: the need to reproduce and ensure the survival of his genes, intense self interest, paranoia. brutal honesty and cunning(again, going back to self interest). Survival is everything, it means you are giving your genes and your children a chance not only to survive and pass on their genes, but thrive. Nietzscheans are also rather matriarchal. They follow the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche, Social Darwinism and Dawkinite genetic competitiveness. He will cheat you if the situation demands it.
However, Rhade, having lived on Terazed among humans coexisting peacefully, is more of an "evolved" Nietzschean, with more of a conscience and emotions. While he is not in the practice of being completely foolhardy with his own survival, he will follow Dylan and the New Systems Commonwealth. Telemachus, like his great great great great great grandfather Gaheris, believe that Nietzscheans have betrayed themselves, becoming nothing more than cowards and bullies, instead of a force to look up too, living gods and perfection itself. He offers an enlightened view of Nietzschean society, explaining motives and offering advice to his human companions on the best strategy against his people. Like Gaheris, he doesn’t view this as treason against his own people, as his people have betrayed themselves and their own potential.
Telemachus, also like his great great great grandfather Gaheris, is a bit of an idealist. He truly believes in the good of the Commonwealth and the ‘de-evolution’ of Nietzscheans. He also can take things a bit too seriously. Becca once called him an ‘academy pinhead’.
Every Nietzschean enjoys a good challenge, Rhade is no exception to this rule. Despite the imprisonment, he might actually like Glaxcin and view it as a way to test his skills, grow and prove his worth and the superiority of his genes.
Physical Description:
When on Andromeda, he wears a High Guard uniform, his rank insignia clipped to his shirt. Rhade has short brown hair, and and a goatee.
Magical powers or special skills:
Rhade is a Nietzschean, or homo sapiens invictus, which pretty much means he’s all special and genetically engineered. He is 5 times stronger than a normal human and 2 times faster. He can eat and digest substances that would be inedible to normal humans, in fact, he can eat anything as long as it’s organic in nature(you know, as opposed to inorganic). His senses are much more refined than a humans, he's immune to some forms of poison and some diseases and they pride themselves on being able to survive in environments humans would not.
Nietzschean's also have bone blades, which are a result of the genetic engineering. They are razor sharp bone like blades that protrude from the outer forearm. They are controlled by a voluntary muscle. Normally they lay against the forearm, but can be extended perpendicular at will to stab an opponent. The blades can be removed surgically, although it will cause intense physical pain, and will grow back. As a High Guard officer he has been trained in martial arts and other forms of self defense such as the use of guns and a force lance.
The force lance itself is a nifty piece of equipment which looks like a harmless medal rod. Unfortunately, it’s not that harmless. The force lance is programmed to it’s owners DNA and will electrically shock anyone else who touches it. It fires plasma shots, can be used as a taser, a and a grappling hook. It can be set to auto fire, can be overloaded and used as a grenade, and also extends 2 meters in the form of a staff.
Any crimes committed in canon: Escaping prison.
Crime incarcerated into Glaxcin for: Treason against the New Systems Commonwealth
Is there any particular direction you would like to see your character go? Anything you would like to explore? I’m kind of curious to see if Rhade will turn to drinking again like he did in Seefra(aka season 5) to deal with everything, or if things will turn out different this time.
