Character's background (their past and present):
Telemachus Rhade is the genetic reincarnation and direct descendant of Gaheris Rhade, the Andromeda Ascendant's first officer during the time of the Systems Commonweath, 300 years prior to Telemachus' birth. Gaheris sided with the Nietzschean rebellion, and played a instrumental role in the destruction of the Systems Commonwealth. Despite his rather subtle hints and warnings to Dylan, who fails to understand them until he is too late, Rhade and Dylan fight for control of the Andromeda. Gaheris nearly succeeds(in one universe, he does), but in the end, and the current universe, he dies. Right before Gaheris' death, Dylan Hunt, the Andromeda's commanding officer, is pulled into the edge of a black hole. This freezes time and 300 years go past in a blink.
Although Gaheris betrayed the Andromeda and his captain, both sides still view him as a hero. The Commonwealth views him as the first to go down in the battle against the Nietzscheans. The Nietzscheans themdelves view him as a hero for his key role.
Unlike other Nietzscheans, Telemachus Rhade's childhood was no doubt very different. He grew up on the planet Tarazed, a planet colonized by Dylan Hunt's fiancee Sarah Riley in order to help him re-found the Commonwealth 300 years later. To that end, she gathered up all the survivors of the Andromeda Ascendant's original crew, along with the Starry Wisdom, to Tarazed, a planet whose natural slipstream route is very difficult to navigate. This kept them out of the crosshairs until they went in search of Dylan Hunt.
Tarazed, as a result, was colonized by many different species, and Nietzscheans grew up with that as normal. In the Commonwealth, everyone was equal. Telemachus Rhade is an Admiral of the Home Defense Fleet on Tarazed and the leader of the Isolationist Movement--a movement which believes that if Tarazed joins the New Systems Commonwealth, they will become prey. If they stay isolated, they are safe and will thrive. After a fight ensues between Telemachus Rhade and Dylan Hunt, mirroring the old battle with Gaheris 300 years ago, the two come to an agreement, despite Tarazed voting not to join the Commonwealth at this time.
We see Telemachus years later, where Tarazed has revoted and joined the New Systems Commonwealth. Rhade has been given the rank of Lt. Commander. He is transporting a prisoner, Tyr Anasazi, former crew member of the Andromeda Ascendant. When Tyr escapes, Rhade is arrested for treason by the now corrupt New Systems Commonwealth, wanting a scapegoat. They reason because Rhade is Nietzschean, he let Tyr go.
Dylan breaks in and frees Rhade from prison and eventually Rhade helps the Andromeda crew defeat and kill, Tyr, who by now is becoming a real nuisance, and Rhade joins the crew permanently as their weapons officer and sometime pilot. This is helped by the fact that he is now a wanted criminal by the New Systems Commonwealth and he really has no where else to go. Dylan vows to get the charges against him dropped and clear his name. Telemachus joins the Andromeda’s journey and mission to help save the Commonwealth from corruption, defeat the Magog world ship and the abyss and save the universe. All that good stuff. Unfortunately, for a while, they kind of failed miserably.
While trying to save a society of pacifists from the Magog, Rhade falls in love with a Nietzschean woman named Louisa. When Louisa dies in his arms at the hands of the Magog, Rhade kinda loses it, and the loss changes him for the worst. He himself narrowly escapes death, Rhade and the rest of the crew is teleported to the planet Seefra, where he becomes rather despondent alcoholic. Having been there alone for almost a year, Rhade becomes convinced his wife and children are also dead, and that the Magog have conquered the universe, without the Andomeda to stop them.
Unfortunately for everyone, no one seems able to actually leave the Seefra system and most of the season is spent trying to get out. And drinking. Rhade drinks like a goldfish swimming in vodka.
Canon point is: Quantum Tractate Delirium (5.18)
Character's personality:
As a Nietzschean, he shares common personality and cultural points with all his people: the need to reproduce and ensure the survival of his genes, intense self interest, brutal honesty and cunning. Survival is everything, it means you are giving your genes and your children a chance not only to survive and pass on their genes, but thrive. They follow the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche, Social Darwinism and Dawkinite genetic competitiveness. He will cheat you if the situation demands it.
However, due to the fact that he grew up on Tarazed with humans who were equals, Telemachus can be more understanding than other Nietzscheans, who view humans as completely inferior. He understands that each species has their strengths, and like his ancestor Gaheris, believes Nietzscheans have betrayed themselves with their corrupted brutality, instead of the moral incarnation of living gods they were supposed to be.
While he is not in the practice of being completely foolhardy with his own survival, he will follow Dylan and the New Systems Commonwealth. Rhade views Dylan with utter respect, and believes he can learn a lot from the man--the only human to defeat the supposedly superior Nietzchean race. Telemachus puts Dylan on a pedestal in season 4, and unfortunately, pedestals aren't known for their stability.
After losing Louisa and trying to cope with life in the Seefra system, Rhade has trouble dealing. All the Andromeda crew arrived on Seefra at different moments in time, all separated. Rhade arrived 9 months before Dylan, and had to deal with the loss of his love, Louisa, as well as what he believes to be the deaths of his wife and children, alone on an unfriendly planet. One of his ways of dealing with this was to consume large amounts of alcohol. He also gets rather violent and angry, blaming Dylan for his problems and the death of Louisa. . Telemachus does attempt to quit drinking but the only time it really sticks is when he is reunited with his family.
Another change Rhade undergoes during the Seefra stay is he gets really greedy. His Nietzschean instincts for survival seem to take over and he has a lot of trouble caring about other people if it doesn't have to do with his survival, money, power or women. Dylan slowly is able to chip away at this and bring Rhade back, but, again, the only thing that really permanently helped was his family, and knowing that the universe is in fact, safe.
Character's skills/abilities/powers:
Telemachus is a Nietzschean, or homo sapiens invictus, which pretty much means he’s all special and genetically engineered. His senses are heighted, eyesight, hearing, reflexes, strength. Rhade is immune to some forms of poison and diseases before discovered prior to the year 3477 and Nietzscheans pride themselves on being able to survive in environments humans would not, be it harsh weather or being able to breathe chlorine gas for a whole thirty minutes. In addition, they can eat anything organic and hold their breath 12 minutes.
Nietzschean's DNA have been modified to prevent or severely diminish the possibility of mutation, and the genes from cancer to astigmatism have been eliminated.
Nietzschean's also have bone blades, which are a result of the genetic engineering. They are razor sharp bone like blades that protrude from the outer forearm. They are controlled by a voluntary muscle. Normally they lay against the forearm, but can be extended perpendicular at will to stab an opponent. The blades can be removed surgically, although it will cause intense physical pain, and will grow back. He is also a High Guard officer, and as such has been trained in martial arts and other forms of self defense such as the use of guns and a force lance.
Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.: High Guard Force lance, gauss gun, implanted sub vocal communicator behind his right ear.

Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them?
I haven't found a place to play Rhade in a while, and with all the Andromeda crew it seems like the perfect opportunity. That and he wont shut up. I would also love to see how he gets along with the Starfleet crew, especially considering his genetically engineered status and Starfleet's stance on that--and those that still remember Kahn and the Eugenics War.
